Message from IUC President Johnson...
The Inter-University Council is the voice of Ohio’s public Universities. Since 1939 we have provided strong leadership for our members. Our goal is to facilitate the development of strong public policy support for Higher Education and to encourage collaboration among Ohio’s great public universities. For just over a year, I have been proud to be the President of the IUC. During that year we have witnessed a dramatic change in the direction of Higher Education in Ohio. The Governor took direct ownership of Higher Education and the Board of Regents. Then our new Chancellor, Eric Fingerhut, immediately created the University System of Ohio. And finally, the Legislature created new supportive programs focused on quality STEMM programs and additional student aid. Together, we supported a tuition freeze for Ohio undergraduate students and their families without sacrificing the quality of education for our students. Now at the dawn of the New Year, we are working with the Chancellor on his Master Plan for Higher Education. We will support the Governor’s plan to add 230,000 additional graduates to the workforce in Ohio. Our challenge is to remain vigilant and maintain high educational standards while finding a way to educate thousands of additional students. We are mindful of the enormous trust the public has placed in our care. We are grateful that Ohio’s policy leaders have begun to realize the economic impact of a more highly educated populace. We look forward to working together with you and thousands of Ohioans to form new collaborations and an even brighter future for Ohio. For our campus highlights, click here.
